

Quad Cities Generating Station, located on the banks of the Mississippi
River in the northwestern Illinois town of Cordova, is a dual-unit nuclear
generating facility capable of producing 789 net megawatts per unit.
Together the units can produce enough power to meets the electrical needs
of nearly 1 million households.
Its Units 1 and 2 began commercial
operation in February 1973 and March 1973, respectively. Both units are
single-cycle forced-circulation boiling water reactors. The station is
co-owned: ComEd is the license holder and owns 75% of the plant, and
MidAmerican Energy Company owns the remaining 25%.
